A Pirate Adventure.....
Class 1 had a very exciting visitor to class, who sent them on a treasure hunt! They now have 8 pirate challenges to complete to gain their 'Pirate Licences'. If they can do it, they get to have a pirate party to celebrate!
We learnt lots about growing and changing today when one of our Mum's brought in her baby for us to meet. We had written lots of questions to ask about what babies can and can't do. She was a very good baby, but we now know they can cry and be sick!
We had a lovely non-uniform day and brought in fantastic donations for the Harvest food bank.
We are learning to type with both hands. It's quite tricky!

We are learning about what animals eat. Some animals are carnivores (only eat meat), some are herbivores (only eat plants) and some are omnivores (they will eat both). Can you tell what each of the animals in the video clips are?

Geography - Weather
We have been using the laptops to research the local weather in Sabden. We thought about why people might want to know the weather in advance. We talked about how the weather affects farming, gardening and clothing. Some children even worked with their partners, and used the iPad to film a short weather report for the week ahead!
BBC Local Weather Why not search on the BBC weather site again for the weather for the week ahead... You might have to protect your young sunflowers if there is going to be a frost!

We have been learning about different types of animals (mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians) and how they are similar and different. In Art, we did some 3D clay models of our favourite animals. It was trickier than we thought to join the clay!

After that we tasted lots of different fruits.

Design and Technology - Making a Healthy Snack
We wrote some fantastic fruit riddles!
During British Science week we did lots of work about plants. We looked at the tulip bulbs we had planted in Autumn to see how they had changed. We looked inside different types of fruit to see what the seeds looked like. We learned about the life cycle of plants and what happens when flowers die. We planted our own sunflower seeds to take home over Easter and we even carried out an investigation to find out what seeds need to start growing. We have been very scientific, and very busy!
Class 1 made Christingles with Mrs Scott in R.E. They looked fantastic!
We have been writing Traditional Tales in English, based on the story 'The Princess and the Pea'. We were so pleased with our stories, we went up to Class 3 to share them with the older children. Class 1 children really enjoyed presenting their finished stories.
We have been learning about shapes in Maths. Some of Class 1 went on a shape hunt around school. Can you spot the shapes they found?
As part of our Maths and Science work we looked at cereals to see how much sugar they contained. We put them in order. There were some surprises!

Our topic is 'Healthy Living' this Half Term. We have learned how healthy eating, exercise and hygiene keep us in tip top condition! We discussed which foods we should eat lots of, and which foods we should only eat a little bit of.
We had a non-uniform day where we wore blue to represent the 'Be Loving and Understanding to Everyone' motto for Anti-Bullying week.

Class 1 have been looking at old and new photos of the school and village. They looked for changes and thought about what life might have been like, living in the past.

In science we have been learning about the seasons and looking for clues around school. We have also been learning the names of some of the trees on the school grounds. Can you recognise or remember any of them?

During Science, the children planned and carried out their own experiment to find out which materials from around the kitchen would keep Miss Storton's hair dry on a rainy day! some of our results were very surprising!!

Class 1 were experimenting with different card engineering techniques to make pop-up pictures during DT.

Please see the EYFS class page to see some pictures of the children enjoying the Christmas Party. They enjoyed playing games, eating party food, singing Christmas songs and we got a special visitor! Miss Thompson & Miss Roberts were very pleased that all the children made it on the 'nice list'.
