Congratulations to our fantastic basketball team who won the silver medals at the Ribble Valley tournament this afternoon. They were actually joint first on points, so the gold medal had to be awarded on the number of baskets scored during the competition.
A massive well done to our Y3/4 (which included two Y2 boys) Sportshall Athletics team. Unlike the Y5/6 event, this was run as one competition, so Sabden had to compete against much bigger schools. If the event had been split into small and large schools (like the Y5/6 was), our team would have come away with silver medals.
So out of 14 schools, Sabden came 4th overall.
Results in full were:
2. St Leonards Langho,
3. Oakhill College,
5 .Clitheroe St James,
9. Bolton by Bowland,
14. Waddington and West Bradford.
A fantastic effort by our Y5/6 team who won the Bronze medals in the Sportshall Athletics competition today. They took part in obstacle relays, one lap and two lap sprint relays, standing long and triple jumps, a vertical jump, chest push, speed bounce and soft javelin events. It was great fun (and very loud!!)
A massive entry of 38 schools meant that for the first time Hyndburn and Ribble Valley races were run separately. Our girls' team of Sophia, Isabella, Bethany, Abigail and Poppy did very well to come 5th overall, and 2nd in the small schools. Unfortunately we were unable to field a full boys' team as Y3/4 were at Chester Zoo. Harry, Alex and Mason were Sabden's representatives.
Outstanding individual performances went to Harry Rickard, placed 4th in the boy's race, and Sophia Bettess who was 6th in the girls' event. As there were 102 entries in each race, these are fantastic achievements. However credit must go to all our runners who really did their best and were a real credit to the school. Two of the girls even lost trainers in the mud along the course, but kept going and finished the race in socks!
Well done everyone!
We have been awarded the Sainsbury School Games GOLD Award!
Congratulations to all our children and a massive thank you to Mrs Hyde. We are one of only 5 primary schools in the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley to receive this award for our sporting achievements, participation and provision.
On a perfect summer's day, and with over 20 schools competing, our year 5 and 6 pupils sprinted 75m, ran 600m, hurled the mini-vortex and jumped into the sand. A great team effort saw us 2nd in the small schools, and 5th overall.
Well done to all our swimmers. We kept our runners-up shield (again!)
Children from class 3 were able to experience participating in a 'mini-triathalon'. They swam, pulled t-shirts and shorts over wet costumes, donned running trainers and ran to the bike transition station. After cycling two laps of the field, they then did the final sprint to the finish where medals were presented. A great morning, expertly run by the British Triathalon Federation.
On a beautiful summer's day, and with a difficult draw, our cricketers did very well to win 2 and lose 2 of their games in the Ribble Valley tournament. Fantastic effort, amazing team spirit and a lot of red faces(from the sun)!!
We got through to the quarter finals of the RV Netball League. Well played Sabden, you were a credit to the school!
Well done to our boys and girls cross country teams who came 2nd in their respective races, and took 2nd place overall (just pipped to the post by another school). Congratulations to one of our Y6 girls who won the individual girl's bronze medal. Proud of you all!
Thank you also to the parents for your support and your help with transport.
Fifteen children from Y4/5 and 6 took part in the Ribble Valley Netball League at Oakhill College. As the weeks progressed, our skill level improved, the ball found the net and we started winning matches!
Children from both key stages donned Santa hats (plus a couple of reindeer and an elf or two), and dashed round Holme Field in order to raise much needed funding for new outdoor play equipment. Team points were awarded to the first 10 home.
Children from KS1 took part in a New Age Kurling competition at St Augustine's School in Billington. New Age Kurling is a modified game of Curling which is played in the winter Olympics. Everyone had great fun, and enjoyed learning a new sport.
Boys and girls teams from each year group too part in the Hyndburn and Ribble valley Sportshall Athletics competition. This took place at Hyndburn Sports Centre in Accrington over two afternoons.
Years 3 and 4 went to compete on 18th November
Years 5 and 6 went to compete on 19th November
Every child participated in two track and two field events.
An excellent result for both teams!!
Our Year 3/4 team finished 5th overall in the Ribble Valley and 2nd in the small schools competition.
Our Year 5/6 team finished 7th in the Ribble valley and 4th in the small schools competition.
Lewis Nelson, Raya Verity, Ruby Islam, Annabel Salt, Molly Capstick, Freddie Durrant, Alex Pollitt, Calum Dewhurst, Lewis Boast, Lily Greaves, Charlie Windsor and Evie Davies
Harvey McKenna, Billy Howland, Lauren Lingard, Ruby Parker, Sophie Livesey, Brandon Mellows, Noah Davies, Harry Rickard, Alfie Topping, Sophia Bettess, Abigail Dewhurst, Bethany Wild and Mason Barker
With thirty-five schools entering, this was the biggest Hyndburn and Ribble Valley cross-country championships ever held. Our girls’ and boys’ teams tackled the challenging course with great determination through fields and woods (and this year no one lost their shoe in the mud!). The girls finished 9th overall and the boys 6th, giving us a final placing of 7th.
Special mention must go to Billy and Ruby who put in outstanding performances to finish 5th and 11th respectively. These scores were out of 250 runners.
Boys’ team: Billy, Harry, Noah, Harvey and Mason.
Girls’ team: Ruby, Sophie, Bethany, Sophia, Saskia and Abigail.
A great effort by the boys in their first tournament. Facing some difficult opponents, they drew with St. Leonards and Mellor St. Mary (both 0-0 scores), and lost to Pendle 1-0.
Team: Calum, Charlie, Lewis B, Lewis N, Eli, Freddie, Alfie and Mason
Well done to theY5/6 boys football team who beat Grindleton 1-0, drew against Bolton-by-Bowland 1-1 and beat Read 1-0 to reach the quarter finals of the tournament where they played St Leonards, Langho. The match was a 0-0 draw at full time, so the result had to be decided on penalties. Unfortunately we didn't score as many as the opposition so didn't make the semi-final on this occasion.
Congratulations to Billy Howland who has been selected to play in the U11 Hyndburn and Ribble Valley district football team.
